The Gabonese government has launched the Compagnie Nationale de Transport (CNT), a strategic merger between Trans’Urb and SOGATRA, marking a transformative step toward a modern, reliable, and accessible public transport network. Spearheaded by President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, this initiative goes beyond mere reorganization—it embodies a forward-thinking vision focused on optimizing resources and elevating the user experience.
Preserving jobs while upgrading skills
The merger’s immediate impact is evident in its social dimension. A total of 1,303 jobs have been safeguarded, ensuring stability for workers. Beyond stability, the CNT is investing in human capital, with over 200 drivers already completing advanced training in road safety and customer service.
A revitalized fleet and expanded routes
The CNT’s rollout includes an initial fleet of 142 brand-new buses, with 28 lines serving Libreville and connecting 609 stops. Regional connectivity is also improving, as seven intercity routes have already been activated, gradually weaving a stronger national transport network. For passengers, the benefits are clear: shorter wait times, more predictable schedules, and a safer alternative to informal transit options.
Cutting-edge technical infrastructure
The transformation extends to the technical backbone of the CNT. Under the leadership of Minister of State for Transport Ulrich Manfoumbi Manfoumbi, the SOGATRA maintenance facilities have been fully upgraded—reinforced workshops, state-of-the-art pit lanes, and redesigned parking areas now support the new fleet with optimal efficiency.
The most groundbreaking feature is the real-time supervision and regulation center. This nerve center provides constant monitoring of buses, enabling swift responses to any traffic disruptions, ensuring smooth operations across the network.
Sustainable growth through financial innovation
Unlike past models, the CNT operates on a self-sustaining financial approach. Ticket revenues are reinvested directly into fleet maintenance, vehicle upkeep, and renewal programs, ensuring long-term reliability and service quality.
With this ambitious restructuring, Gabon is redefining mobility as a catalyst for social inclusion and economic progress, reshaping daily life for its citizens.
