The diplomatic relationship between Morocco and France is set to intensify with an official visit by French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu to Rabat on July 15 and 16. Accompanying him will be a delegation of ten French ministers, underscoring the significance of this trip, which is considered one of the most crucial engagements between the two nations in recent months. The agenda includes a series of bilateral meetings and the anticipated signing of various conventions across multiple sectors.

The French delegation is scheduled to arrive in Rabat on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 15. Immediately following their arrival, Prime Minister Lecornu is slated for a private meeting with Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch. Concurrently, several government departments from both countries will hold separate preparatory discussions to lay the groundwork for subsequent exchanges.

Morocco-France visit: strengthening political and economic cooperation

The highlight of this important visit is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, with the plenary session of the High Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation taking place in Rabat. This key meeting will be co-chaired by both heads of government at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bringing together Moroccan and French delegations. The session aims to review critical shared issues and formalize new commitments through the signing of several agreements.

This high-level gathering marks a period of renewed momentum in relations between Rabat and Paris. It represents the most substantial interaction since the appointment of France’s new ambassador to Morocco, Philippe Lalliot. Beyond its political implications, the visit also highlights the robust economic ties between the two partners. In 2024, bilateral trade reached an unprecedented €14.8 billion, cementing France’s pivotal role in the Kingdom’s external relations.

Trade flows vividly illustrate this strong interdependence. Morocco accounts for over 40% of French exports to the African continent, particularly in sectors such as transport, electronic equipment, chemicals, and cosmetics. Simultaneously, French imports from Morocco saw a 4.4% increase in 2024. France remains Morocco’s leading economic and financial partner, while Morocco has established itself as Paris’s primary African client and supplier. Against this backdrop, the Morocco-France visit on July 15 and 16 is poised to reinforce existing collaborations and initiate new ventures in areas deemed strategic by both capitals.
