This meeting underscored the ongoing commitment between President Denis Sassou N’Guesso and President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi to deepen cooperation and fast-track high-impact integration initiatives. Among the priorities discussed was the Brazzaville-Kinshasa road-rail bridge, a landmark project set to connect the world’s two closest capital cities. This infrastructure will streamline transport of goods and people while enhancing trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The leaders also emphasized energy sector collaboration, particularly the Energy Friendship Loop—a regional project aimed at linking power grids to bolster electricity supply and spur economic progress. A formal agreement was signed to formalize this interconnection, including plans for a massive hydroelectric dam on the Likouala aux Herbes River with an installed capacity of 12,900 megawatts. This tri-national endeavor, involving the Congo, DRC, and Angola, aims to position Central Africa as a major energy hub.
Beyond infrastructure, the two presidents addressed security concerns and stability challenges in the Great Lakes and Central Africa regions. They reaffirmed their dedication to dialogue and strengthened cooperation to safeguard peace—a vital foundation for sustainable development in both nations and the wider subregion.
