Chad security forces arrest 29 suspects in N’Djamena crackdown

The National Police of Chad has announced the arrest of 29 individuals in N’Djamena during a series of coordinated operations targeting criminal networks. The suspects, detained between May 15 and June 1, face charges ranging from arms trafficking to aggravated theft.

Multi-agency collaboration leads to arrests

According to the Director General of the National Police, the arrests followed joint operations involving intelligence units, public security commissariats, central investigative services, and the Ngueli border police. Control General Mahamat Idriss highlighted the effectiveness of these coordinated efforts in dismantling criminal cells operating across the capital.

Charges span wide-ranging criminal activities

The 29 detainees are accused of involvement in multiple offenses, including:

  • Illegal arms trafficking and related complicity
  • Formation of criminal associations
  • Aggravated theft and armed robbery
  • Vehicle break-ins and thefts
  • Unauthorized entry of foreigners into Chad

Following standard legal procedures, the suspects were categorized into four groups based on the severity and nature of their alleged crimes. The most serious cases involve armed robbery gangs, motorcycle theft rings operating in broad daylight, and theft of high-value items such as electronics, gold, and household goods.

Evidence and legal process underway

Investigators have documented multiple incidents where suspects were caught in the act, including vehicle burglaries and thefts involving stolen goods like laptops, phones, and metal materials. The authorities continue to process the cases through formal legal channels, ensuring due process for all detainees.
