Tchad : vers un apaisement entre magistrats et ministre de la Sécurité

On May 27, 2026, a crucial meeting convened at the Ministry of Justice in N’Djamena, Chad, aiming to defuse tensions ignited by recent statements from the Minister of Public Security and Immigration. This significant gathering brought together key government officials, including the Minister of Justice, Mme Ndolenodji Alixe Naimbaye, and the Minister of Public Security, Ali Ahmat Aghabache.

Minister Naimbaye opened the discussions by stressing the paramount importance of sustained dialogue between state institutions and fostering an environment of mutual respect and calm. Addressing the concerns, Minister Aghabache clarified that his remarks, originally made during a session concerning the occupation of public spaces, had been unfortunately taken out of context and distorted through video edits. He firmly asserted that he never intended to criticize the judiciary and expressed deep regret over the erroneous dissemination of his comments.

Representatives from judicial unions conveyed their serious concerns, perceiving the Minister’s initial statements as an affront to the independence of the magistracy. Nevertheless, they acknowledged and appreciated the apologies extended by both the government and the Minister. They also requested further clarification on certain phrases deemed ambiguous, seeking to ensure complete understanding and resolution.

In response, Minister Aghabache conceded that his statements could indeed have led to misinterpretation and committed to issuing a clear, public apology. The Premier President of the Supreme Court further reinforced the call for continuous institutional dialogue, emphasizing its role in safeguarding stability and public trust within Chad’s judicial system.

The participants ultimately agreed to refine the wording of the official apology letter and to release a communiqué explaining the collaborative efforts undertaken to restore harmony. The meeting concluded on a note of palpable appeasement, signaling a positive step towards reconciliation.
