Chad reaffirms commitment to CEEAC by settling financial arrears
On Monday, July 13, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno welcomed a high-level delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC). The meeting was led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung, the current Chair of the organisation’s Council of Ministers.
The gathering also introduced the newly appointed leadership of the CEEAC Commission, including Ambassador Ezéchiel Nibigira as President and Ambassador Mariam Mahamat Nour as Vice-President.
A major highlight of the discussion was Chad’s pledge to fulfil its financial obligations to the Community. President Déby instructed his administration to settle all outstanding contributions owed by Chad to the CEEAC budget, ensuring future payments are made on time.
In an official statement, the President stressed that Chad remains fully committed to the CEEAC’s operations, stating, « The Government has been directed to clear all outstanding contributions and ensure regular compliance with financial obligations, reinforcing Chad’s dedication to the organisation’s success. »
During the meeting, he also emphasised Chad’s strong political, economic, and financial support for the regional body, praising the CEEAC’s role in facilitating peaceful transitions in Chad and Gabon, which restored constitutional order in both countries.
The CEEAC representatives outlined their key priorities and challenges, including accelerating economic integration through expanded trade, improved transport infrastructure, enhanced mobility, and the strengthening of the free trade zone across Central Africa.
Rosario Mbasogo Kung, in turn, commended the assurances provided by President Déby, noting that the CEEAC’s success hinges on both institutional action and member states’ commitment to fostering peace, unity, and prosperity in the region.
