Chad and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas have officially inaugurated diplomatic relations, as confirmed by Chadian authorities. This significant step was marked by the signing of a joint communiqué in New York.
The formal agreement was executed on July 16 by Mouctar Abakar, Chad’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and his Bahamian counterpart, Stan James.
Through this communiqué, both nations have committed to fostering cooperation and friendship. Their alliance will be founded on principles of sovereign equality, mutual respect for independence, territorial integrity, and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs.
The Commonwealth of The Bahamas is an archipelagic state situated in the Caribbean, home to approximately 420,000 residents. It achieved independence from the United Kingdom in 1973. The nation’s economy thrives primarily on its robust tourism sector and financial services. Renowned globally as a prominent offshore financial hub, The Bahamas is often characterized as a tax haven due to its favorable tax policies and substantial international financial industry.
This establishment of diplomatic ties aligns with N’Djamena’s stated ambition to broaden and fortify its international partnerships with various member states across the global community.
