Arsenal clinches premier league title for the first time since 2004 following Manchester City’s draw

Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday night means they can no longer overtake Premier League leaders Arsenal, who now secure their 14th English championship title before the final matchday.

Twenty-two years after their last triumph, Arsenal has once again ascended to the pinnacle of English football, claiming their 14th league title this Tuesday evening. The Gunners secured the Premier League crown without needing to play their 38th and final matchday, thanks to Manchester City’s unexpected 1-1 stalemate with Bournemouth. Much credit goes to the Cherries, a surprising side under the guidance of manager Andoni Iraola, consistently lauded for their engaging, offensive style of play.

Driven by the exceptional Adrien Truffert, Bournemouth effectively denied the Citizens the championship, with Arsenal maintaining a crucial five-point advantage heading into the season’s final fixture. While Erling Haaland’s dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute offered a fleeting hope for City to snatch a late winner, it ultimately proved insufficient, preventing them from securing the three points that could have narrowed the gap to one point behind the Reds and fifth place. Manchester City’s aspiration of forcing a long-distance title showdown on the 38th matchday was dramatically extinguished just before halftime by a magnificent goal from Eli Junior Kroupi.

Following a brilliant fifty-meter run, Truffert delivered a perfectly weighted pullback pass, setting up the former Lorient player. Kroupi then executed a superb right-footed strike, finding the top corner past Gianluigi Donnarumma to open the scoring (1-0, 39th minute). This marked Kroupi’s thirteenth goal of the season, further cementing his impact, especially after his recent decision to forgo the World Cup with Portugal in favor of a future with the French national team.

Before Bournemouth broke the deadlock, the Citizens had created three notable opportunities: Jérémy Doku’s left-footed shot was comfortably saved by Petrovic in the 5th minute, Antoine Semenyo had a goal disallowed for offside following a clever defensive move by Truffert in the 12th minute, and Haaland saw a powerful strike blocked on the line by Evanilson.

Guardiola’s tenure concludes with this regret

City, despite their potential, failed to exert the necessary pressure, and Pep Guardiola’s squad visibly faltered towards the end of the first half, culminating in Kroupi’s decisive goal. The Citizens re-emerged with renewed determination in the second period, forcing Petrovic into a crucial save from Nico O’Reilly in the 46th minute. However, this resurgence was short-lived, even with the introductions of Savinho, Cherki, and Foden in the 55th minute.

Indeed, it was Bournemouth who crafted the most dangerous chances in the second half: Donnarumma parried an Evanilson volley in the 52nd minute, Rayan struck the Italian goalkeeper’s post in the 62nd minute and forced another save in the 69th, and David Brooks also hit the woodwork in the 89th minute. Lacking conviction and determination, City clearly fell short on the decisive day. While Haaland’s injury-time equalizer offered a flicker of hope, it was ultimately too late to salvage their title aspirations. This result signifies the end of their chase. Pep Guardiola will likely depart with this profound regret, though he can still reflect on winning two domestic cups in his final decade at Manchester.
