Algerian Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, commenced a two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad, leading a high-level delegation. The primary objective was to explore effective strategies for advancing joint infrastructure projects, particularly focusing on the ambitious Trans-Saharan Road initiative.
This important visit aligns with directives issued by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the recent visit of the Chadian President to Algeria. It underscores a shared commitment to fostering tangible and pragmatic bilateral cooperation, aiming to spur significant development across both nations.
Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, Director General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation for Solidarity and Development (AICA), arrived at N’Djamena’s Hassan Djamous International Airport on Wednesday evening. Chadian Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, along with several Chadian officials, extended a warm welcome to the delegation.
The Algerian delegation comprises more than 14 experts and engineers. This marks their second visit to the Republic of Chad, continuing the in-depth technical assessments initiated during their previous trip. Key figures accompanying the minister include the CEOs of “Cosider travaux publics” and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).
The public works sector holds a significant position in the cooperation between Algeria and Chad, recognized as a crucial catalyst for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong and sustained interest in the Trans-Saharan Road project, understanding its strategic importance in forging lasting economic ties between the two countries and the broader region. Consequently, this visit is primarily centered on the concrete implementation of two essential sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, which represent vital links in this continental artery.
Leveraging the extensive experience acquired by its national enterprises in constructing major road networks, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is offering its expertise and technical capabilities to this transformative project. This endeavor is poised to bring about a major transformation and significantly invigorate regional trade exchanges.
I anticipate this visit will culminate in concrete outcomes, further strengthening the robust Algeria-Chad partnership in the vital areas of infrastructure and public works.
