WAPCO (Niger), in close collaboration with local livestock authorities, recently completed a highly successful livestock vaccination and deworming initiative within the Zinder region. This crucial campaign reached seven distinct pastoral encampments, including N’Guel Eléfi and Tesker, providing essential care for over 10,000 animals. This achievement signifies the successful conclusion of the initial phase of WAPCO (Niger)’s impactful « Communautés en bonne santé » (Healthy Communities) public interest activities, which have now extended their reach to all regions situated along the pipeline route.
To further bolster the health management capabilities of local populations, WAPCO (Niger) has strategically integrated its internal medical resources. Leveraging its on-site medical personnel and fundamental medications, the company launched two pilot programs for complimentary community medical consultations near pumping stations 5 and 6 in early 2025. These initiatives were met with enthusiastic approval from local residents. Building on the success of these pilot projects, a comprehensive needs assessment was conducted, leading to the official commencement of the first phase of the « Communautés en bonne santé » program in August 2025. To date, WAPCO (Niger) has facilitated a total of seven free community medical consultations, delivering vital healthcare services to 1,249 local inhabitants, and has generously donated a tricycle ambulance to a local community health center.
During the implementation of these free medical consultations, the company’s team gained valuable insight into the critical role livestock plays as a primary source of income and livelihood for local families. They also recognized the urgent need expressed by pastoralists for comprehensive animal care. Responding directly to these significant community concerns, WAPCO (Niger) strategically broadened the scope of its « Communautés en bonne santé » activities. Through active partnerships with local livestock authorities and other key entities, WAPCO (Niger) has since delivered vaccination and deworming services to more than 20,000 animals across three major pastoral gathering points situated along the pipeline, thereby empowering herders to safeguard their essential productive assets.

As a committed and responsible enterprise, WAPCO (Niger) has consistently upheld a philosophy of mutually beneficial cooperation and shared advancement since its inception. While diligently ensuring the secure and stable operation of the pipeline, the company places significant emphasis on fulfilling its social responsibilities. WAPCO (Niger) actively champions the Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP), contributes through public interest donations, and extends vital aid to local communities. By doing so, it plays a proactive role in enhancing local livelihoods and fostering social development, thereby continuously strengthening the population’s sense of benefit and cultivating an external environment conducive to the secure and efficient operation of the pipeline.
Looking ahead, WAPCO (Niger) remains dedicated to conducting thorough assessments of community needs, ensuring that its interventions precisely align with the expectations of residents living along the pipeline. The company is committed to progressively broadening the scope of its public interest activities, aiming to ensure that an increasing number of residents can partake in the advantages of development. While steadfastly guaranteeing the safe and uninterrupted flow of this vital energy artery, WAPCO (Niger) pledges to continue working hand-in-hand with the community, implementing tangible actions to foster improved livelihoods and promote collaborative growth and shared prosperity for both WAPCO (Niger) and the communities it serves.
