The United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, conveyed a congratulatory message to King Mohammed VI on July 30, marking the 27th anniversary of the Monarch’s enthronement during Morocco’s Throne Day celebrations.
In his address, Rubio underscored the enduring ties between the two nations, stating, “For nearly 250 years, the United States and Morocco have maintained the longest friendship in American history. This partnership is built on shared values and a mutual commitment to peace, security, and prosperity.”
He continued, “On behalf of the American people, I extend warm greetings to His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people on the anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne.” The statement was officially released by the U.S. Department of State.
Enhanced cooperation ahead Marco Rubio emphasized that bilateral collaboration across multiple sectors will deepen in the coming years. “Together, we will continue advancing regional stability, economic growth, and prosperity for both our nations.”
U.S. stance on Western Sahara The Secretary of State reiterated Washington’s unwavering support for Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara, affirming, “Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. position remains clear: we recognize Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and endorse the Kingdom’s serious, credible, and realistic autonomy plan as the only viable foundation for a fair, lasting, and mutually acceptable solution.”
He added, “Any alternative path would only prolong the status quo, which is unacceptable. True autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty provides this region and the continent with the opportunity to move forward after five decades of stagnation.”
Morocco’s regional role Marco Rubio highlighted Morocco’s pivotal role in regional stability, particularly through its contributions to the Abraham Accords. “Under the leadership of His Majesty Mohammed VI, Morocco stands as a cornerstone of security in North Africa and the Sahel. The U.S. values this partnership and looks forward to strengthening collaboration to ensure stability in the Sahel.”
The Secretary of State concluded by emphasizing economic growth as a key priority, noting, “Your vision for economic progress will bring new prosperity to both our peoples. President Trump has directed his Administration to foster economic and social development with Morocco, including within the Moroccan Sahara.”
