A crucial meeting at the Pentagon saw the United States and Bénin officially reaffirm their strong strategic alliance in defense matters. General Christopher J. Mahoney, Vice Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, engaged in discussions with Major General Fructueux Gbaguidi, who serves as the Chief of Staff for Bénin’s armed forces.

Central to their dialogue were various joint security initiatives and the ongoing military assistance provided by Washington, particularly through the U.S. Africa Command (Africom).

Both high-ranking officials emphasized the indispensable role of a stable, secure, and democratic Bénin in fostering overall regional peace. They pledged to deepen their military cooperation and work closely with other regional partners to effectively counter transnational threats, thereby guaranteeing enduring stability across the area.
