Kpomé, August 3, 2026 — For many young Togolese, securing stable employment remains a significant challenge. In response, authorities are implementing a practical strategy: empowering individuals who complete vocational training to become thriving rural entrepreneurs. In Kpomé, located within the Maritime region, fifty young people have now taken a crucial step forward, receiving essential equipment to immediately launch their agricultural and livestock businesses.
This distribution of materials, which took place on July 20 under the supervision of Dotsè Medjina, Secretary General of the Maritime Region Governorship and representative of the Governor, marks the successful conclusion of a three-month professional training program. The curriculum focused on high-potential careers within the agropastoral sector.
Beyond training: immediate equipment for new producers
A common hurdle in many professional integration programs is the post-training phase. Often, young people acquire valuable skills but lack the initial capital required to launch their ventures.
In Kpomé, this challenge has been addressed head-on. Upon completing their apprenticeship, beneficiaries received comprehensive startup kits. These kits include essential items such as motor cultivators, motor pumps, sprayers, various seeds, fertilizers, electronic scales, rolls of fencing, irrigation and water storage systems, wheelbarrows, and construction materials.
The primary aim is to empower these new producers to commence their operations immediately, eliminating the need to wait for additional funding.
Agropastoral sector: a key driver for rural job creation
The fifty beneficiaries received training across several sectors deemed strategically vital for rural development. The program encompassed market gardening, poultry farming, raising small ruminants, and pig production.
By providing these young individuals with appropriate equipment, the public authorities aim not only to foster their financial independence but also to bolster local production and invigorate rural economies.
A strategic investment emphasizing diligence and accountability
During the recent ceremony, Dotsè Medjina underscored the significant responsibility accompanying this provision of resources. He urged the beneficiaries to utilize the equipment diligently to ensure the profitability and long-term viability of their new enterprises.
Furthermore, he called upon the young entrepreneurs to fully embrace their roles and become active contributors to the economic development of their local communities.
A national strategy for Togolese food sovereignty
This initiative is a core component of the “Formation-métier et accompagnement à l’insertion professionnelle” (Professional training and support for professional integration) project, which was launched in 2025 by the National Agency for Employment (ANPE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Animal Resources, and Food Sovereignty.
Through this comprehensive program, Togo aims to move beyond purely theoretical training, fostering an employment policy that prioritizes the creation of income-generating activities. The strategic focus on the agropastoral sector reflects this direction, with the ambitious goal of cultivating a new generation of young producers. These individuals are expected to transform their acquired skills into viable businesses, thereby contributing significantly and sustainably to the nation’s food sovereignty.
