Togo President Meets Chad Envoy to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received on Friday in Lomé a special envoy from the Chadian President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. The focus was on strengthening bilateral cooperation, African integration, and the upcoming Forum on African Water scheduled to take place in N’Djamena.

The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, granted an audience on Friday, July 3, to Fatime Aldjineh Garfa, a deputy minister at the Chadian Foreign Ministry.

Carrying a message from the Chadian President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, the envoy reaffirmed both countries’ will to consolidate their bilateral cooperation. Discussions also touched on the challenges of African integration and water sector development.

"We are carrying a personal message from the Head of State, Chief of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the President of the Council of the Republic, His Excellency Monsieur Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. We have also transmitted the official invitation from the Head of State Chad to the African Water Forum, which will take place on July 15-16, 2026, in N’Djamena," said Mme Fatime Aldjineh Garfa.

Scheduled for July 15-16, 2026 in N’Djamena, the African Water Forum falls within the dynamics of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union. It will bring together African leaders and technical and financial partners around issues related to investments in hydraulics infrastructure on the continent.

Through this visit, Lomé and N’Djamena reaffirm their willingness to strengthen their political partnership and promote common initiatives for development and African integration.
