Togo and Egypt fortify diplomatic and economic ties in seoul

On the fringes of the inaugural Korea-Africa ministerial meeting, held in Seoul on June 1st and 2nd, Robert Dussey, Togo’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, engaged in discussions with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty. Their deliberations centered on expanding the horizons of cooperation between Togo and Egypt.

This significant encounter provided an opportunity for both top diplomats to thoroughly review the current state of their bilateral relationship and to pinpoint new avenues for partnership. The Egyptian minister conveyed his appreciation for the positive momentum characterizing the ties between Lomé and Cairo, reiterating Egypt’s steadfast commitment to deepening its collaboration with Togo.

A central theme of their discussions involved the potential participation of Egyptian businesses in various development initiatives currently underway in Togo. Key sectors identified for priority collaboration included infrastructure, energy, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry, and port facilities.

The dialogue further extended to critical areas such as technology transfer and the enhancement of digital capabilities. Both ministers recognized these as essential pillars for fostering economic transformation and modernizing public administrations across African nations.

Addressing security and diplomatic concerns, the ministers discussed the prevailing situations in the Great Lakes and Sahel regions. During this segment, Badr Abdelatty commended Togo’s proactive mediation efforts in several conflict zones on the continent. He reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for initiatives dedicated to promoting peace, stability, and constructive dialogue throughout Africa.

This pivotal meeting underscores the mutual desire of both nations to solidify their strategic partnership and to bolster South-South cooperation. Such collaboration is deemed crucial for effectively addressing the multifaceted development and security challenges confronting the African continent today.
