Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, the head of the Borkou Provincial Council, was taken into custody Thursday late afternoon in N’Djamena and escorted to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police, local security sources confirmed.
Arrest following public defamation complaint
The arrest occurred at the premises of Hotel La Résidence just before 5:00 PM. It follows a legal proceeding initiated after a public defamation complaint was filed against Ahmat Bedei Toullomi.
Allegations and counterclaims
The plaintiffs, Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, allege that Ahmat Bedei Toullomi published several social media posts accusing them of involvement in a cocaine trafficking operation in Chad.
The complainants firmly deny these accusations, calling them « completely false, unfounded, and slanderous », and claim the statements have severely damaged their reputation and honor.
Legal proceedings and prior summons
An arrest warrant for Ahmat Bedei Toullomi was issued on August 4, 2026, by the prosecutor’s office at the N’Djamena Court of First Instance, requiring his presence for questioning regarding the allegations made against him.
Authorities had previously summoned him multiple times, but he failed to appear. After more than ten days without response to the summons, law enforcement proceeded with his arrest to bring him before the appropriate authorities for questioning.
Social media response
Minutes after his arrest, a message was posted at 5:10 PM on his Facebook page stating: « Either the Marshal stands with all of us, or the traffickers are stronger than the law. I’ve been abducted. »
At this stage, the arrest is part of a formal judicial procedure and does not imply guilt.
