Tchad boosts horse racing sector with new funding and hippodrome

At the Grand Prix de la République 2026 held at the Afrouk racetrack near N’Djamena, President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing the country’s horse racing industry. The event drew thousands of enthusiasts, breeders, and riders, all gathered to celebrate a sport deeply woven into Chad’s cultural heritage.

The Head of State observed the races before unveiling a landmark financial boost designed to strengthen the sector. Speaking on his behalf, the Minister of State and Director of the Presidential Cabinet, Aziz Mahamat Saleh, announced a 50 million CFA franc allocation to modernize horse racing infrastructure and enhance the national equine breed.

« The Republic’s leadership is fully committed to advancing horse racing in Chad and elevating the quality of our equine breeds », the minister declared to a captivated audience.
