Sonko mourns passing of serigne abdou bakhi mbacké in Senegal

Dakar — Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the esteemed Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, which occurred on Thursday, July 9, 2026. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, he honored the late spiritual leader’s legacy while extending sympathies to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Sénégal.

Sonko expressed his profound grief in a poignant statement:

« With deep sorrow and overwhelming emotion, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. »

The National Assembly leader also reflected on his personal encounters with the late guide during visits to Guinguinéo, recalling moments of warmth and spiritual connection:

« I had the honor of meeting this respected spiritual figure on multiple occasions during my travels to Guinguinéo. Each interaction was marked by his extraordinary kindness, heartfelt hospitality, and unwavering benevolence—qualities that left a lasting impression on me. »

In this time of mourning, Sonko extended his « most sincere condolences » to the deceased’s family, the Grand Khalife, the religious community in Guinguinéo, and the entire nation. His message concluded with a prayer for divine mercy:
