Influential religious figure Serigne Habib Sy has publicly announced his official adherence to Pastef following a significant meeting with Ousmane Sonko in Diaksao. He explicitly stated his intention to acquire a party membership card, thereby openly confirming his support for the political movement led by Sonko.
Ahead of the revered Mawlid celebration in Tivaouane, Ousmane Sonko, who serves as both the President of the National Assembly and the leader of Pastef, undertook a visit to Diaksao. This visit was part of his customary engagements with various religious leaders. During this occasion, he was received by Serigne Habib Sy, who seized the moment to publicly declare his affiliation with the ruling party.
Addressing his distinguished guest, the religious guide unequivocally communicated his desire to formalize his membership with Pastef. “I am a member of Pastef. I will soon purchase a membership card. However, I am unsure how to complete the adhesion process via the online platform,” Serigne Habib Sy conveyed. In response, Ousmane Sonko promptly committed to facilitating this step. “I will personally bring you your membership card,” the Pastef leader assured him.
This declaration by Serigne Habib Sy aligns with his ongoing civic and political engagements. The son of the late Mame Abdou Aziz Sy Dabakh had previously joined the notable “Y en a marre” movement in February 2021. Several years later, he now openly expresses his solidarity with Pastef and confirms his plan to formally join the party.
