The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has formally acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s ruling that declares the recently passed constitutional reform law unconstitutional. The leader of the Pastef party accepted the decision of the so-called « Seven Sages », emphasizing that their verdict is binding for all.
« Beyond any opinions or interpretations of the reasoning behind this decision, one thing is clear: this ruling applies to everyone. So be it! » Sonko wrote in an official statement.
In his response, Sonko highlighted the importance of institutional roles, noting that « when institutions function within their designated authority, no crisis can arise. »
He further reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to fulfilling its duties without deviation. « The National Assembly will continue to carry out its mandate in full. Laws will be passed or rejected in accordance with our commitment to serve the Senegalese people with dignity and integrity, » he declared.
