Senegal secures CAF appeal decision ahead of CAS appeal for CAN 2025

The Senegalese Football Federation has finally received the reasoned decision from the CAF Appeals Jury, paving the way for an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). After three weeks of uncertainty, this decision enables Senegal to challenge the CAF’s ruling that awarded Morocco the CAN 2025 title by default.

CAF appeal decision clears path for CAS appeal

According to RMC Sport reports, the CAF Appeals Jury’s decision was transmitted to all parties involved just before the weekend. This document confirms the victory awarded to Morocco (3-0) on administrative grounds, though it does not address related matters such as prize money, medals, or trophies—matters outside the jury’s jurisdiction.

The CAF has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the tournament’s victor, despite Morocco being declared the winner by default. CAF President has deferred to the CAS to resolve the dispute definitively.

Timeline for CAS deliberations remains unclear

The conclusion of this CAN 2025 saga, marred by on-field incidents and supporter unrest during the final, is now in the hands of the CAS. While no precise timeline has been set for the tribunal’s deliberations, the process will bring finality to the dispute, with no further avenues for appeal once a decision is rendered.

Me Matthieu Reeb, CAS Secretary General, emphasized the tribunal’s preparedness: “The CAS is fully equipped to handle such disputes with specialized and independent arbitrators. We recognize the urgency for teams and fans awaiting resolution and will ensure proceedings are conducted swiftly while upholding fair trial rights for all parties.”

What’s next for Senegal and Morocco?

With the CAS appeal now formally initiated, the legal battle enters its final phase. The tribunal’s decision will determine not only the CAN 2025 winner but also set a precedent for future continental tournaments. Fans and stakeholders await a resolution that reflects both the spirit of competition and the integrity of African football.
