Ousmane Sonko, Speaker of Senegal’s National Assembly, conveyed his deep sadness upon learning of the death of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a heartfelt message of condolence, Sonko reflected on the many meetings he shared with the late religious leader during visits to Guinguinéo. He described the deep personal connection forged through these encounters, marked by the late Serigne’s generosity and kindness.
Tribute to a revered spiritual guide
“With profound emotion and great sadness, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo,” Sonko stated in his tribute.
The opposition leader underscored the exceptional human qualities of the late Serigne, recalling the warm reception and unwavering kindness he consistently demonstrated. “Each of our encounters was marked by his affection, warmth, and generosity, leaving a lasting impression on me,” Sonko emphasized.
Extending his condolences to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride community, the religious community of Guinguinéo, and the entire Senegalese people, Sonko prayed for divine mercy.
“May Allah, in His infinite mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise,” he prayed.
