The draw, which took place this Tuesday, officially confirmed Senegal’s placement in Group J for the upcoming AFCON 2027 qualifiers. Our nation’s esteemed football team will compete against Mozambique, Sudan, and Ethiopia in a bid to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament.

As the current African champions, Senegal enters this qualifying campaign with the undeniable tag of favorites within what appears, on paper, to be a manageable group. However, coach Pape Thiaw’s squad understands the unpredictable nature of African football. They must exercise caution, as these teams are seasoned competitors on the continent and are notoriously challenging to overcome, particularly when playing on their home turf.

The comprehensive schedule for these crucial qualifying matches will unfold across several international breaks. The initial two matchdays are slated for a period spanning from September 21 to October 6, 2026. Following this, the third and fourth rounds of fixtures will take place between November 9 and 17, 2026. The group stage will then conclude with the fifth and sixth matchdays, scheduled from March 22 to March 30, 2027.
