Senegal authorities under fire for arrest of pape malick ndour

The Alliance pour la République (APR) has voiced its strong condemnation following the detention of its member Pape Malick Ndour, who was taken into custody based on a warrant linked to the PRODAC case.

The party, led by former President Macky Sall, declared that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko was the first to publicly refer to the arrest as a “hostage situation,” even going so far as to label him the alleged “mastermind” behind the move. The APR argues that the accusations stem from a document allegedly dating back to 2018 by the Inspection Générale des Finances (IGF), though Pape Malick Ndour was only appointed to PRODAC in June 2019. This discrepancy, according to the party, undermines the legal validity of the proceedings aimed at what they describe as the judicial sequestration of an “honest citizen who performed exceptionally well as PRODAC coordinator.”

questionable legal grounds fuel outrage

The APR has condemned the use of a non-contradictory forensic accounting report as the basis for charges, calling the evidence “flimsy” and contradicting the actual circumstances. They describe the allegations against Pape Malick Ndour as “surprisingly trivial” and highlight the systematic reliance on preventive detention in cases where fair trial guarantees appear severely compromised.

The party expressed deep concern over the implications of such a consequential decision resting on weak, uncorroborated, or even fabricated evidence. In their view, this case raises broader questions about the protection of individual freedoms, the presumption of innocence, and the safeguarding of public liberties.

Condemning what they perceive as a growing trend of criminalizing opposition and intimidating political leaders, the APR has pledged unwavering support for Pape Malick Ndour, his family, and his legal team. The party has called on all members, activists, and officials to remain vigilant, united, and mobilized against any attempt to undermine democratic principles and fundamental freedoms.

The APR holds the Government solely responsible for any harm—physical or moral—inflicted upon Pape Malick Ndour and has demanded his immediate and unconditional release. The party remains steadfast in its belief that justice will prevail over arbitrary actions, vowing to stand alongside all those facing injustice with the conviction that right will ultimately triumph over wrong.
