Senegal’s National Assembly to convene extraordinary session
The National Assembly of Senegal has published an official decree convening its members for an extraordinary session on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM. This session, authorized by Assembly President Ousmane Sonko, will focus on critical legislative priorities and oversight measures.
The decree, numbered 192, outlines a tightly structured agenda that aligns with constitutional provisions (Article 63) and the Assembly’s internal regulations (Article 7). This extraordinary gathering follows established procedural requirements to address pressing national matters.
Key legislative proposals on the agenda
The session will examine several significant legislative proposals, including:
- Labour Code reform (Bill No. 15/2026)
- Social Security Code modernization (Bill No. 16/2026)
- Critical Information Infrastructure Protection and Digital Security Law (Bill No. 25/2026)
- Constitutional amendment regarding Article 37 (Proposal No. 33/2026)
- Framework law on special credits (Proposal No. 34/2026)
Six parliamentary inquiry commissions to be established
The extraordinary session will also ratify the creation of six parliamentary inquiry commissions to investigate:
- Irregularities in land management and public maritime domain allocations
- Suspicious property transfers from state assets to private individuals
- Government use of TRS financial mechanisms
- Financial irregularities in the ‘One Student, One Laptop’ program since 2017, with an estimated commitment of 48 billion CFA francs
- Tax revenue management and exemption oversight
- Fishing license issuance and renewal procedures
According to the decree, the session will conclude once all agenda items are addressed, with no modifications permitted once proceedings begin, in strict adherence to parliamentary procedure.
