In a decisive move during the inauguration of Cameroon’s Senate’s second ordinary session in Yaoundé, Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye delivered a stern warning to the government about the escalating crises of sexual violence against children and femicide.

The Lamido of Rey Bouba, Aboubakary Abdoulaye, used his opening address to urge authorities to take bold, immediate action to combat these heinous crimes that continue to plague the nation.

Addressing a distinguished audience including Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, the President of the National Assembly, and other key government officials, he condemned the systematic attacks on the dignity, safety, and lives of vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.

“We must put an end to the culture of impunity surrounding sexual violence and femicide,” Abdoulaye declared, emphasizing the need for swift justice for victims and stronger preventive measures.

The timing of his statement coincides with the nation’s outrage over the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl in Yaoundé. The incident sparked nationwide protests and ignited urgent conversations about the urgent need for enhanced legal frameworks and protective measures to safeguard children from gender-based violence.
