Bassirou Diomaye Faye has officially launched his new political formation, Kiiraay – Les Patriotes Républicains, in Dakar, marking a significant step in reshaping the Sengalese political landscape after his split from Pastef.
The newly formed party adopted the motto ‘La Patrie d'abord’ (The Country First), emphasizing its focus on defending national interests, strengthening republican institutions, and consolidating the rule of law.
In the Wolof language, ‘Kiiraay’ means ‘protector’, a choice presented as a symbol of a party aiming to accompany President Diomaye Faye’s governance project and unite forces supporting his vision for transforming Sengal.
Following the assembly, delegates unanimously elected Bassirou Diomaye Faye as the party’s president, marking a shift in his political stance after leaving Pastef’s leadership post at the beginning of his presidential term.
A resolution read by Aminata Touré, general supervisor of the former coalition Diomaye Président, revealed that Kiiraay resulted from the merger of 437 parties, movements, and associations united around a common project aimed at supporting reforms initiated by the president and the country’s development ambitions.
Internationally, the birth of this new formation is being closely watched by partners, investors, and development actors in the face of Sengal’s ongoing implementation of its Vision Sengal 2050 strategy. Ensuring stability and governance clarity remain key factors in bolstering market confidence, attracting investments, and solidifying international partnerships.
