Following his election on February 21, Raphaël Edzang is prepared to formally take control of the Rassemblement pour le Gabon (RPG) this coming Saturday, June 27. The handover will take place at the party’s central office located in the Petit Paris neighborhood of Libreville.
The inauguration ceremony for the incoming president will provide a stage for him to present his strategic roadmap, define the party’s trajectory for the coming years, and offer perspectives on the most significant national developments.
“The RPG represents change, and that change begins now,” serves as the new guiding principle established by the leadership team succeeding Laurent Angué Mezui.
With this new slogan, the party’s leader aims to inject fresh energy into the political organization. His focus remains on promoting transparency, fostering national development, and aligning the party more closely with the needs and hopes of the citizens. Furthermore, Raphaël Edzang intends to establish the RPG as a primary source of political proposals and a vital participant in the nation’s public life.
An economist by profession, Raphaël Edzang is a senior administrative official born on October 25, 1970, in Ellelem 1, within the Woleu Ntem province. His professional background includes a notable tenure at the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGMP), where he served as the Director of Public Procurement.
His political career within the RPG began in 2009 when he served as a mission officer for the party’s founder. He has remained a steadfast member ever since, representing the party as a candidate in the legislative elections of 2011, 2018, 2023, and 2025.
The RPG was established in the late 1990s by Paul Mba Abessole, emerging from the restructuring of the Rassemblement national des bucherons (RNB). While it initially gained prominence as a major opposition force, the party later transitioned to join the presidential majority under the administration of President Omar Bongo Ondimba.
