A significant political shift is unfolding in Sénégal as three key ministers, including Yankhoba Diémé, have announced their departure from Pastef. Their decision to align with President Diomaye comes with a stark declaration, labeling Ousmane Sonko‘s former party a ‘hollow shell,’ signaling a profound transformation within the nation’s political landscape.
Ministers Ibrahima Sy, Yankhoba Diémé, and Alioune Dione have unequivocally severed ties with Pastef. These individuals, once staunch allies of Ousmane Sonko before his departure from the Prime Minister’s office, have now clearly defined their political allegiances.
Their choice was decisive and made without hesitation. Despite their history as vocal opponents of Macky Sall and their previous unwavering support for Ousmane Sonko‘s cause, they have now prioritized ‘the Republic’ above what they describe as personal interests.
In a pointed statement, Yankhoba Diémé, who previously served as Pastef’s departmental coordinator in Bignona, asserted, “There is absolutely nothing left within Pastef. It has become nothing more than a coquille vide.” Echoing this sentiment, Alioune Dione, a former political leader for Pastef in Diourbel, affirmed his commitment: “I, along with all my colleagues, pledge to join and become part of President Diomaye‘s party.”
