The recent press conference held by Ousmane Sonko in Touba has significantly escalated political tensions between him and Prime Minister Al Aminou Lo. Following Sonko’s remarks, Lo took to social media to denounce the weaponization of patriotism for political gain, just as Sonko announced his intention to initiate censure motions against the current government.

The political friction between Prime Minister Al Aminou Lo and his predecessor, Ousmane Sonko, appears to be reaching a critical point. Hours after the Pastef leader’s press briefing in Touba, where he sharply criticized the government’s performance and declared his support for a series of censure motions in the National Assembly, the head of government chose to issue a response via a message posted on the social network X.

Without explicitly mentioning Ousmane Sonko, Al Aminou Lo published a statement widely understood as a direct rejoinder to the former Prime Minister’s assertions. “To attempt to monopolize patriotism for a single faction is, precisely, to betray it,” Lo stated. This reaction followed Sonko’s comments made during the inauguration of Pastef’s headquarters in Touba. Addressing his party militants, the former government chief claimed he had received intelligence regarding declarations allegedly made by Al Aminou Lo during a private meeting.

“According to information I received, Al Aminou Lo reportedly declared, during a confidential session, that his primary focus is now the improvement of the business climate. This indicates a desire to meet the expectations of Western economic partners and investors,” Ousmane Sonko asserted. The Pastef president characterized this strategic direction as a form of “sabotage” against the political agenda he champions. Subsequently, he announced plans to file multiple censure motions targeting the government led by Al Aminou Lo, intending, he explained, to impede its operations.
