President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has delivered a pointed message, widely interpreted as being directed at his former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. Speaking at the launch of his new political entity, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes républicains, the head of state issued a clear caution: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex ». This Wolof phrase translates to: “Here, henceforth, what was tolerated will no longer be.”
In his address, the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscored Senegal’s commitment to enduring stability and peace. This significant declaration comes amidst escalating tensions between the two prominent figures of the executive branch, set against the backdrop of a reshuffling within the presidential majority and the establishment of Diomaye Faye’s new party.
The presidential warning follows several months of overt disagreements between the current Head of State and his former governmental leader. These divergences have been evident in the differing tones of their respective national addresses and the definitive split between the presidential coalition and the Pastef party.
It is worth noting that Ousmane Sonko, as president of Pastef, has concurrently been engaged in a drive to sell party membership cards, an initiative launched with his associates in recent days.
