Fresh off back-to-back Champions League titles, Paris Saint-Germain is gearing up for a high-stakes summer transfer window. Club leadership has tasked Luis Enrique with reshaping the squad, prompting an aggressive scouting campaign that has already identified promising targets. Among them, the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes has emerged as a top priority. Yet, PSG may face stiff competition, as reports indicate a Premier League powerhouse has stolen a march on the deal.

Premier League heavyweight leads the race for Fernandes

Manchester United is reportedly in pole position to sign Mateus Fernandes this summer. The young playmaker, who recently missed out on Portugal’s 2026 World Cup squad, has made no secret of his preference for a move to Old Trafford. While Tottenham and other top clubs have also expressed interest, Fernandes’ clear desire to join the Red Devils gives them a significant edge in negotiations. Should the deal go through, PSG could see its ambitions for the midfield maestro thwarted by a rival from England’s top flight.

Paris Saint-Germain targets other transfer opportunities

Despite the setback on Mateus Fernandes, PSG remains active on other fronts. Club officials are confident of securing deals for two more players this summer. Yan Diomandé, an Ivorian international from RB Leipzig, and Maghnes Akliouche, an attacking midfielder from AS Monaco, are both viewed as potential additions. The combined transfer fees for both players could reach approximately €200 million, keeping the capital club firmly in the headlines as the transfer window unfolds.
