The Patriotes africains du Sénégal pour le travail, l’éthique et la fraternité (Pastef, pouvoir) is gearing up for its inaugural elective national congress scheduled for June 6–7, 2026, in Dakar. This landmark event will center on electing the party’s president and solidifying its strategic direction for the coming years.
In a move that aligns with expectations, Ousmane Sonko, the incumbent Prime Minister, has been confirmed as the sole candidate for re-election to his current position. The Haute autorité de régulation du parti (Harp) released the list of approved candidates on May 22, underscoring the party’s commitment to transparency and procedural rigor.
However, the applications of seven individuals were deemed inadmissible. The Harp cited incomplete documentation—such as missing identification or membership cards—as well as procedural irregularities that could not be rectified after the submission deadline of May 20.
This congress marks a pivotal moment for Pastef as it prepares to navigate the political landscape ahead of critical national elections. The upcoming local elections in 2027 and the 2029 presidential race will test the party’s influence and vision for Senegal’s future.
