Ousmane Sonko unveils strategic blueprint for pastéf’s national congress

The Cité Keur Gorgui residence of Ousmane Sonko transformed into a vibrant political command center on Friday, May 15, 2026. With PASTEF’s inaugural national congress on June 6, 2026, less than three weeks away, the leader of the Patriots convened his inner circle for a pivotal strategic meeting. Key figures from both the government and the party were in attendance, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé.

The primary objective of this closed-door gathering was unambiguous: to ignite a general mobilization and consolidate the political machinery around the core leadership in anticipation of this crucial juncture.

Discussions during the session primarily centered on a comprehensive overhaul of the ruling party’s structure, alongside the logistical and political preparations for the upcoming congress. While the city of Diamniadio is strongly anticipated to host the event, the true stakes lie in the behind-the-scenes maneuvers.

Ousmane Sonko aims to formalize the internal reorganizations initiated last April, which saw the appointment of four vice-presidents and the strategic repositioning of long-standing loyalists. The Prime Minister is determined to forge a more transparent, disciplined, and effective structure capable of robustly supporting governmental initiatives, particularly in addressing the nation’s pressing economic challenges.

To underscore this new phase of grassroots re-engagement, Ousmane Sonko issued a clear directive to his lieutenants using a powerful Wolof expression: « Yokk thiéré doli gnekh » (to increase the quantity and add more sauce). This phrase served as a compelling call to massively intensify the movement’s dynamic. The current mandate is to reach every locality across Sénégal, including the most remote areas, to reinvigorate the militant base. Following the meeting, El Malick Ndiaye expressed profound optimism on social media, alluding to « beautiful prospects under the banner of sovereignty », signaling PASTEF’s readiness to stage an unprecedented display of political strength since its ascent to power.
