Ousmane Sonko outlines pastef’s strategic future at keur gorgui meeting

With less than three weeks remaining until its inaugural national congress, the leadership of Pastef convened on Friday, May 15, at their leader Ousmane Sonko’s residence in Cité Keur Gorgui. The pivotal meeting aimed to steer the party towards its most significant structural evolution. Gathered around the table were prominent figures and crucial lieutenants of the party, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, among others, all responding to the call for this crucial assembly.

Discussions primarily revolved around the political agenda for the upcoming weeks. The main focus was on the logistical and political dimensions of the national congress, scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains undecided, sources present at the meeting indicated that Diamniadio is a strong possibility for hosting the event.

Sonko views the successful execution of the congress as paramount. The Pastef leader is determined to demonstrate that the party retains its full political influence. “We must make the congress a success and re-energize the party,” he conveyed to his closest associates. Beyond the congress itself, Ousmane Sonko extensively emphasized the critical need to restructure Pastef to enhance its visibility and operational clarity.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the vital issue of remobilization. He articulated the imperative of engaging directly with constituents on the ground, reaching even the most remote areas. Following the gathering, El Malick Ndiaye, a senior Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared on his Facebook page that “beyond the challenges, promising prospects are emerging for our nation and for our collective vision. These are prospects imbued with hope, progress, and sovereignty, which we will continue to build together, with faith, discipline, and unwavering commitment.”
