Ousmane Sonko challenges president bassirou diomaye faye in linguère rally

Meeting à Linguère : Ousmane Sonko charge lourdement Bassirou Diomaye Faye

Ousmane Sonko invigorated a massive assembly of supporters during his recent rally in Linguère, where he delivered a sharp critique of the current presidential administration. He highlighted a stark divergence between the aspirations of the Senegalese people and the prevailing political realities.

On Saturday, Ousmane Sonko convened a significant rally in Linguère, attracting a large crowd of activists eager to show their solidarity with the Pastef leader. In a forceful address, Sonko explicitly criticized the incumbent President of the Republic, who had removed him from his position as Prime Minister just last May.

“Senegalese fought for more than this”

Addressing an enthusiastic audience, Ousmane Sonko underscored a profound disconnect between the foundational ideals that propelled the movement to power and the current actions of the executive branch. In a particularly poignant moment, he declared with emphasis: “The Senegalese did not cast their votes for this. The Senegalese did not wage battles for this. Lives were not sacrificed for this. Individuals did not endure imprisonment for this. The Senegalese fought to fundamentally alter the system. Yet today, that very system resides in the palace and continues to operate.”

This pronouncement signals a definitive rift between the Pastef leader and the individual now holding the highest office, directly targeting the current government’s management, which Sonko perceives as out of step with the struggles undertaken during their time in opposition. Ousmane Sonko, visibly determined to confront the president of Kiiraay – Les Patriotes républicains in upcoming electoral contests, expressed absolute confidence in a future victory, irrespective of any political maneuvering by his adversaries.

“That is why I believe he can align with all the mayors or forge alliances with every party he wishes. My focus remains solely on the people. Because in a democracy, there is only one truth, and that is the people,” he asserted, directly addressing his supporters and indeed all Senegalese citizens.
