Norway’s International Development Minister concludes productive visit to Dakar
His Excellency Mr. Åsmund Aukrust, Norway’s Minister of International Development, concluded a two-day official visit to Dakar, Senegal, from May 3 to 4, 2026.
The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dakar warmly welcomed Norway’s Minister of International Development, Åsmund Aukrust, during his official visit to Senegal. This diplomatic engagement underscores the growing partnership between Norway and Senegal.
The Minister held high-level discussions with key Senegalese officials, including Cheikh Niang, Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs, and Senegalese Abroad; Elhadj Abdourahmane Diouf, Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition; Abdourahmane Sarr, Minister of Economy, Planning, and Cooperation; and El Malick Ndiaye, President of the National Assembly.
These meetings addressed pressing regional issues, including security dynamics across the Sahel and shared development priorities. The talks also explored global challenges and multilateral initiatives such as the UN’s 80th anniversary celebrations.
The visit highlighted both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, reinforcing Senegal’s role as a stabilizing force in West Africa.
