Niger Celebrates Third Anniversary of CNSP Rule with Mass Demonstrations

Thousands took to the streets of Niamey on Saturday morning to commemorate the third anniversary of the Refondation du Niger, a date marking the arrival of the CNSP at power.

The commemoration was also an opportunity for protesters to express their gratitude to the military regime and celebrate the progress made since its takeover in 2023.

‘This date is a turning point in our nation’s history,’ said Boubacar Kimba Kollo, a prominent civil society figure. ‘The Niger people have chosen to turn a new page by supporting the CNSP’s efforts to bring stability and unity to our country.’

For protesters, the demonstration was also a chance to acknowledge the achievements made since the CNSP came to power.

‘This day represents freedom, hope, and a new path for governance,’ said Abdoulaye Salifou, a protester. ‘We’ve seen tremendous progress, particularly in our fight against Western imperialism and the assertion of our sovereignty.’

As the crowd looked towards the future, they called on the current authorities to continue their reforms and bring the CNSP’s ambitions to fruition.
