Three years after joining Stade de Reims, goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is set to make a high-profile move to English football. The French club confirmed his transfer to Newcastle United in the Premier League this week.

The 20-year-old stopper, who has been with the Champagne-Ardenne side since 2023, delivered a breakthrough season this year. With 15 clean sheets across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, he recorded the best defensive record in both divisions combined.

From promising talent to top-tier transfer

Jaouen’s development has been closely watched. After early loan spells at Rodez and Dunkerque, where he became the youngest goalkeeper to start for a top-five European league’s second tier at 18, he returned to Reims stronger than ever.

The club praised him as “one of France’s most promising young goalkeepers,” highlighting his quick reflexes, composure on the ball, and maturity beyond his years. His performances earned him a first call-up to the France U21 team this season.
