N’Djamena gears up for 2026 music festival to unite a nation

N’Djamena will host the 2026 Music Festival under the theme ‘Music as a catalyst for social cohesion’, an initiative designed to bridge divides and celebrate the nation’s rich musical heritage. The event, set for next year, aims to bring together communities through accessible cultural performances across the capital.

Launching a cultural movement

The festival’s kickoff took place at the Hilton roundabout in N’Djamena, where Minister of Tourism, Culture and Crafts Abakar Rozzi Téguil addressed a diverse crowd of officials, artists, cultural stakeholders and enthusiastic attendees. The gathering underscored the unifying power of music as a force for national harmony.

The minister emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering unity through cultural expression, aligning the festival with President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno’s vision of social cohesion as a cornerstone of public policy. « This year, we are prioritizing an inclusive, decentralized celebration that reaches every corner of Chad », he stated.

A musical journey across Chad

To ensure wide participation, the festival will feature a nationwide tour spanning all ten districts of N’Djamena and extending to rural provinces. The goal is to transform public spaces—plazas, neighborhoods and villages—into stages where music becomes a universal language of connection.

« Music belongs to everyone, not just concert halls », the minister remarked. « By taking performances to the streets, we aim to strengthen bonds of solidarity and pride in our shared identity. » The initiative also seeks to spotlight local talent while boosting the creative economy, offering youth new opportunities for expression and growth.

Celebrating diversity through art

Throughout the festival, audiences can expect live performances, interactive workshops and cultural showcases celebrating Chad’s diverse musical traditions. Organizers highlight the event’s dual role: as a social glue and an economic catalyst, empowering artists while reinforcing national unity.
