MRC leadership responds to Maurice Kamto’s political shift
Pierre Emmanuel Binyam, the newly appointed chair of the truth and restoration commission created by Maurice Kamto, recently appeared on national television to address the former party leader’s unexpected political departure.
Binyam emphasized that Kamto’s move away from the party wasn’t a formal resignation but rather a strategic mission to pursue national ambitions. The MRC leader’s attempt to run in the 2026 presidential election was ultimately blocked by authorities, a decision that left party members deeply shaken.
«The president’s departure wasn’t a rejection of the party but an assignment to fulfill a national role. Now that the mission has concluded, we’ve called him back to complete his mandate,» Binyam explained during the broadcast.
The MRC executive stressed that Kamto’s disqualification from the presidential race dealt a severe blow to party morale. «The decision to exclude our candidate was devastating, especially given that all credible polls projected him as the clear favorite both domestically and internationally,» Binyam added.
