Mourning in Senegal after passing of guinguineo’s mouride leader

The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the revered Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, he honored the late religious leader’s legacy and extended sympathies to the bereaved family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people.

« With deep sorrow and profound emotion, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » wrote Sonko in his tribute. He recalled the warm interactions he shared with the esteemed spiritual guide during visits to Guinguinéo, where the late leader’s hospitality and genuine kindness left a lasting impression.

The President of the National Assembly emphasized the late Khalife’s unwavering commitment to fostering unity and spiritual guidance within the community. « Each encounter with him was marked by his remarkable warmth, affection, and benevolence, qualities that deeply touched us, » he reflected.

During this « sorrowful moment, » Ousmane Sonko extended his « most sincere condolences » to the bereaved family, the Mouride community, the residents of Guinguinéo, and the nation as a whole. He concluded his message with a prayer, hoping that Allah would grant the late Khalife eternal rest and mercy in His divine paradise.
