According to the family’s legal team, Cheick Mamadou Tall has been missing since May 16, shortly after receiving a phone call. This incident occurred just two weeks after his father, Mountaga Tall, was abducted on May 2 in Bamako. The Tall family asserts that the prominent lawyer was forcibly taken by masked individuals. To date, no official details regarding his whereabouts or the circumstances of his disappearance have been provided by authorities, fueling concern over Mali politics english.

A vocal critic of Mali’s military leadership

Mountaga Tall, a formerly influential member of the M5 movement instrumental in the 2020 overthrow of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, initially supported the military’s ascent to power. However, he subsequently emerged as a prominent voice of opposition. The lawyer is currently representing several military personnel facing charges of “attempted institutional destabilization” and has also legally challenged the transitional authorities’ decision to dissolve political parties.

In late April, strategic positions held by the military regime were targeted in attacks claimed by the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, and rebels from the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA).
