Since late July, the United States has intensified its economic and diplomatic engagement with Morocco, signaling a strengthening alliance. This follows Washington’s pivotal 2020 endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy proposal for the Western Sahara, a move that coincided with the normalization of Rabat’s ties with Israel. Now, the US administration appears poised to extend its support to Morocco’s claims over the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla. This development significantly escalates pressure on Spain, particularly after an influx of thousands of individuals, comprising both Moroccan nationals and sub-Saharan migrants, recently converged on Ceuta.
