Parliamentary diplomacy takes center stage in Morocco’s global engagement

The 11th legislative term of Morocco’s Chamber of Representatives has underscored the pivotal role of parliamentary diplomacy in shaping the Kingdom’s international relations. This was highlighted by Rachid Talbi Alami, President of the Chamber, during the closing session of the second legislative year (2025-2026).

In his address, Talbi Alami emphasized that the Chamber’s diplomatic strategy is anchored in a clear political and diplomatic vision, particularly concerning the Saharan issue. He reiterated that this dossier remains Morocco’s top priority in its foreign policy and serves as the cornerstone of its relations with global partners.

UN resolution marks a turning point in Western Sahara dispute

Talbi Alami recalled the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on July 31, 2025, which he described as a decisive milestone in the resolution of the Western Sahara conflict. He noted that the resolution reinforced Morocco’s position by acknowledging the historical legitimacy of the region and bolstering international support for the Kingdom’s historical rights over its southern provinces.

Parliamentary platform amplifies royal initiatives

The Chamber of Representatives has played a key role in advancing major royal initiatives on both the African and international stages. Talbi Alami pointed to Morocco’s diplomatic efforts targeting Atlantic coastal African states and facilitating access to the Atlantic Ocean for landlocked African nations. These initiatives reflect Morocco’s commitment to fostering regional stability and economic integration.

He also highlighted Morocco’s dedication to global causes, including peace, coexistence, and environmental protection. The Kingdom has hosted numerous international congresses and forums that have led to the adoption of 11 key international parliamentary documents, including global declarations, during the current legislative term.

Strengthening Morocco’s voice in multilateral forums

Talbi Alami stressed the importance of consolidating Morocco’s presence within multilateral parliamentary organizations. He advocated for deeper bilateral cooperation through the signing of agreements and the organization of forums designed to build lasting partnerships and mutual trust.

The President of the Chamber also highlighted the role of international cooperation programs as a catalyst for dialogue, best practice exchanges with leading parliaments, and the promotion of Morocco’s democratic model. He noted that the Chamber stands out globally for developing and publishing practical guides and reference documents on parliamentary action through comparative approaches.
