Atlas Lionesses break unbeaten clean sheet streak
The Moroccan team had entered the match with a pristine defensive record, having conceded zero goals throughout the tournament. Yet, their opponents weren’t about to make it easy. The game remained tight until the 14th minute, when Thembi Kgatlana’s first attempt forced Khadija Errmichi into a crucial save. The breakthrough finally came from Sakina Ouzraoui, who volleyed in a cross from Hanane Ait El Haj to put Morocco ahead (1-0, 32nd minute).
The lead was short-lived as the second half kicked off. Fikile Magama’s reckless challenge on Ghizlane Chebbak inside the box earned South Africa a penalty—one calmly converted by Ait El Haj (2-0, 52nd minute). Just as the game appeared decided, Magama redeemed herself with a well-struck shot past Errmichi (2-1, 67th minute). The Banyana Banyana pushed hard for an equalizer, but the Moroccan defense held firm, denying any late drama. Morocco’s victory sets up a third consecutive semifinal appearance in the competition.
