Setting the standard as a regional leader and trusted partner
In a recent discussion from Washington, Moroccan-American expert and academic Mohamed Daadaoui highlighted the Kingdom’s pivotal role in shaping migration management policies across the region. The scholar emphasized how Morocco has established itself as a responsible regional actor and a credible international partner, thanks to a forward-thinking strategy that has earned widespread recognition among global institutions.
Coordinated efforts yield tangible results
Daadaoui praised the seamless collaboration between Morocco and Spain, particularly in dismantling human trafficking networks and executing complex maritime rescue operations. However, he cautioned against over-reliance on a single country to bear the burden of irregular migration challenges. « While Morocco can secure its borders effectively, it cannot single-handedly address the deep-rooted issues driving irregular migration flows,» he noted, stressing that transcontinental migration is a shared responsibility.
Europe urged to adopt a strategic approach
Concluding his analysis, Daadaoui urged European policymakers to shift their focus toward tackling the root socio-economic factors that push people to migrate. He underscored that sustainable migration governance in the Mediterranean hinges on stronger partnerships with Morocco. « Effective migration management depends on close cooperation with Morocco as a trusted and reliable partner,» he asserted.
