Morocco joins second peace-security-development nexus conference in Mombasa
The Kingdom of Morocco is actively participating in the second Political Conference on the Nexus between Peace, Security and Development, taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, on July 11 and 12.
This event follows the inaugural conference held in Tangier from October 25 to 27, 2022, which culminated in the adoption of the Tangier Declaration. This landmark document established an integrated African vision for the peace-security-development nexus, emphasizing coordinated public policies, strengthened partnerships, and the implementation of targeted initiatives to foster sustainable peace, security, and development across the continent.
The Tangier Process has since emerged as the leading continental platform for dialogue on the interconnectedness of peace, security, and development in Africa. It brings together key continental and international stakeholders, including the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Import-Export Bank, and the African Development Bank.
The primary objectives of this second conference include assessing progress made in implementing the Tangier Declaration and identifying operational strategies to deepen the nexus between peace, security, and development across Africa.
Key discussion themes
The conference will feature five panel discussions focusing on:
- Implementation of the Tangier Declaration through thematic projects;
- The role of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations;
- The relationship between security expenditures and development;
- Mobilizing financing for Nexus projects;
- Lessons learned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions.
Morocco’s delegation highlights integrated approach
The Moroccan delegation, led by Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, will present Morocco’s vision for an integrated approach to peace, security, and development.
