Senegalese politician Mor Tallah Gueye has stepped down from his position as President of the FDCUIC, joining a growing list of cadres who have defected from the government in support of former president Ousmane Sonko. ‘We believed in sovereignty, in fighting against the system and in the need to bring about real change,’ Gueye stated.
However, following Sonko’s ousting, renegades are multiplying, and the very system we have always opposed is regaining its footing. I refuse to be a party to this drift. We will continue to fight for a just Sénégal, sovereign and faithful to the ideals that inspired hope in an entire people,’ Gueye said.
Gueye’s resignation marks another departure from the government, following that of the coordinator of the Senegalese Patriotic Youth at Touba, who left his post as Chargé de Mission at the Presidency a few days ago, also in support of Ousmane Sonko. These departures demonstrate the visible fracture between supporters of the president and followers of the former prime minister within Pastef.
