Mamadou Goumbala’s urgent call for unity at Ousmane Sonko’s PASTEF meeting

An unexpected development unfolded recently at Cité Keur Gorgui, where the political bureau of PASTEF was convening at the residence of its leader, Ousmane Sonko.

While the high-level meeting was underway and numerous journalists gathered outside, Mamadou Goumbala made an unscheduled appearance. Not listed among the official invitees, his arrival instantly drew significant attention from those assembled in front of the prominent residence.

Addressing the cameras, Goumbala delivered a powerful political message, advocating for an urgent de-escalation of the perceived tensions between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko.

He articulated his conviction that any disagreements among the nation’s top leadership must not overshadow the pressing expectations of the populace. Goumbala underscored the critical importance for these influential figures to prioritize the daily concerns of Sénégalais citizens, particularly focusing on crucial social and economic issues.

“The discord at the highest echelons of government must cease,” Goumbala emphatically stated to reporters. “We elected them to alleviate the hardships faced by Sénégalais, not for self-serving political maneuvers.”

Furthermore, Mamadou Goumbala urged both key leaders to safeguard their political understanding, asserting that their united front remains indispensable for stable and effective public governance. He reiterated that citizens primarily seek tangible outcomes, not internal political disputes.

In this vein, he proposed that the internal strains witnessed within the ruling majority might necessitate the establishment of broader consultation frameworks. Such initiatives, he believes, would significantly bolster cohesion around the current administration’s governance agenda.
